What better time than now to reøect on the accomplishments that allowed OGP to achieve international recognition for optical measurement in the highest echelons of industry. We are the leading optical technology innovator and pacesetter in our industry. Many of the consumer products in your own home contain parts measured on an OGP system. Through the years, OGP systems played an important role in ensuring the quality of component parts used in many industrial and scientiöc success stories, such as personal computers, smartphones, digital video, electric cars – even the space program. OGP pioneered multisensor measurement by adding lasers and touch probes to our line of video systems starting with the IQ-2000 in 1986 and continuing today with a wide range of powerful multi-sensing systems. Then, introducing the örst truly revolutionary computer controlled automatic video measuring system, the Vidicom Qualiöer in 1980. First, automating edge detection for the optical comparator with our Projectron, an early electro-optical image sensing system, in 1956.
How these systems became more accurate, automated, faster, and ever more capable is OGP’s contribution to this remarkable transformation. Today, the modern automatic video measuring system is completely computer controlled, using video cameras that depend little on the operator's visual skills to produce accurate measurements. When OGP was founded 75 years ago, users typically relied on microscopes and optical comparators, depending entirely on their own judgement to ascertain the measurement. In my time with the company, I witnessed a dramatic change in how optical instruments perform measurement. Throughout this time, OGP concentrated on dimensional metrology and supplying optical instruments for measuring important characteristics on our customers’ manufactured parts.
Now is a great time to reøect on our history and some of the achievements this company accomplished over those many years.
